Help support young people during the COVID crisis

By November 11, 2020 No Comments

IBC Buying Group is calling on its Members and Suppliers to help and support a charity that carries out vital work to help deprived young people get the best possible start in life.

Unitas Youth Zone is a modern youth centre in Burnt Oak, London, which provides young people aged 8-19, or up to 25 for those with disabilities, with a safe space where they can socialise and learn positive new skills such as art, music, cooking, drama, photography, and many others. It also runs an Ambitions Programme – a six-week employability course where they can learn valuable life skills to help them succeed in their chosen careers.

Many of the young people who are members of Unitas have struggled with mental health issues, isolation, domestic violence and increased levels of poverty as a result of the COVID-19 crisis, making it more important than ever that Unitas continues to offer them a safe place to go, where they can socialise and talk with skilled youth workers.

Like so many other charities, the Unitas Youth Zone was forced to close during the first national lockdown, and has since had to make major changes to its facilities in order to meet social distancing regulations and help keep the young people safe.

The C3 Alliance – a Development Management Consultancy within the construction industry – is working closely with Unitas Youth Zone to renovate the site’s outdoor recreational space, so that they can continue to support these young people. Once completed, this multi-use space will be used for a wide range of outdoor events, as well as providing space where young people can grow food for use in the Unitas kitchen.

During the first stage of the project, the C3 Alliance has been working on a range of designs and plans for the outdoor space, in collaboration with partners including Nao Landscapes, HTA Design, and Focus Logistics. All these companies have given their time, expertise and resources to help Unitas continue to support local young people, and IBC Buying Group is now asking its Members and Suppliers to consider whether they can also lend their support.

Once the final design has been chosen, building work will begin, and this is where IBC is hoping its Members and Suppliers can help, by offering materials, advice and financial support to help create this outside space.

Kishor Harsiani, Financial Director of The C3 Alliance and IBC Buying Group, says: “The construction industry is well-known for being hugely generous when it comes to supporting worthwhile charities, and Unitas definitely qualifies. The work they do makes a huge difference to the lives of young people living in deprived areas, and we want to do everything we can to help improve their facilities and give these young people the best possible start in life.

“These young people are our future customers, branch managers and staff, and we would urge any of our Supplier Partners or Merchants who feel they can help to get in touch.”

Unitas has been IBC Buying Group’s chosen charity since it first opened its doors in July 2019, and is based on the OnSide Youth Zone concept – a national organisation that aims to open these types of 21st Century Youth Zones across the country to help young people in deprived areas.

The C3 Alliance is a Development Management Consultancy who deliver value to clients on their projects through Senior Management expertise and experience and driving efficiency through collaborative partnerships with Leading Supply Chain Partners including Manufacturers, Distributers and Contractors. In addition, C3 Alliance are engaged by Leading Developers and Contractors to advise and shape their Procurement and Supply Chain Strategy.

The IBC Buying Group and C3 Alliance are both part of the Allneeds Group, a UK-wide building and construction group with companies that can offer the combined services of buying power, wholesale purchasing and distribution to support all construction and development projects.

C3 is keen to find other likeminded people and businesses who will join them in helping Unitas Youth Zone in this most worthwhile charity for the future of our youth. If you would be interested in helping, please contact chloe.burbridge@c3alliance.co.uk.
