At IBC Buying Group we love celebrating the achievements of our members – and Selhurst Timber & Builders’ Merchants’ story is one that truly stands out. As they mark 20 years in business and 15 years as a valued member of the IBC family, we couldn’t be prouder of how far they’ve come.
Selhurst Timber is more than just a builders’ merchant – it’s a family-run business with a deep commitment to its customers, its staff, and the wider industry. From humble beginnings as a single depot with just four employees, the company has grown into a multi-site operation with four branches, 32 staff members and a modern delivery fleet, serving customers from Southampton to St Albans. That’s no small feat as an independent merchant in a challenging industry!
What’s made Selhurst Timber so successful? A relentless focus on service and investment. They don’t just supply materials – they add real value for their customers, always going the extra mile to deliver first-class customer service. One standout example is their loft loader service, a significant £180,000 investment for the business that they provide free of charge. It’s that level of dedication that keeps customers coming back time and time again.
Selhurst Timber has been a member of IBC Buying Group for 15 years and, in that time, we’ve had the privilege of supporting them in their journey, helping them secure the best deals, navigate supply challenges, and access new opportunities. Over the years we’ve built a strong and trusted relationship, working closely with Managing Director Arron Green and his team to ensure they stay ahead in a competitive market.
Arron himself is a true advocate for independent merchants. He first began working at Selhurst Timber 16 years ago sweeping the yard, and since then has worked his way up through the business, becoming a van driver, then a depot manager, before being made Managing Director four years ago. As such he understands the merchant industry and the value of long-term partnerships – which is why he’s remained such a committed member of IBC Buying Group.
“I’ve had other buying groups approach me, but IBC has always supported us in ways that really matter,” he says.
Arron first began working with IBC Buying Group when he became Manager of the Orpington branch and has seen the important role that IBC plays in helping Selhurst Timber develop and grow. He explains: “Our Divisional Account Manager is always on the ball, looking at our figures and highlighting areas where we could grow. IBC helps us overcome any challenges, especially when it comes to product shortages. Being part of IBC Buying Group means that I know I will always be able to secure loads for my customers.
“Moving forward, we’re looking to develop our online presence and IBC is already helping us to explore eCommerce solutions for the future; they’re always pushing us forward.”
